C11__Makaira_pro_500The word Makaira is derived from Latin via Greek which means spear or sword. It is a types of fish called Marlins and Spearfish. These fish have spear like sharp snout or bill and a tough dorsal fin which assist them to avoid rolling and help them spear through the water fast. These are super fast and can swim up to 110 km per hour. It is believed that the name Marlins is derived because of its resemblance to a tool in sailer’s rope work. This tool is called marlinspike or marlin spike. It is also believed that the word means Sword in Greek. The Makaira family includes the black, Atlantic blue and the indo-Pacific blue marlins.

The black marlin is also known as Makaira indica. It is regarded to be one of the fastet fish with a speed of 80 mph or 130 km per hour. The Atlantic Blue Marlin is also called Makaira nigricans and are found mainly in the Atlantic Ocean. The Indo-Pacific blue marlin are called Makaira Mazara.

According to Christopher Ward they gave the watch Makaira Pro 500 name because it is “very very specail” watch. The watch has been constructed  frim fine materials at the Swiss industry with the satin brushed case. The watch has Sellita automatic movement which is extremely reliable. The Swiss made timepiece has Marine grade 316L stainless steel case and an internal bezel and the piece itself is run by the Swiss self-winding automatic movement. The date calendar is set at 4’o clock which is not a favourite feature with many watch fans as we have seen from past experience. Some customers expressed it in their reviews of other models with similar features that a date at the 4’o clock position aggravates the balanced look of the dial. The anti-reflective museum grad sapphire and luminous hands and indices are a great features of the watch. It has an adjustable rubber strap and is water resistant up to 500 meters or 50 atm. The diameter is 42mm and calibre Sellita SW200-1. The rubber strap is 22mm wide and the watch has 38 hours power reserve.
